Bond: Cocktails at my place, eightish, just the two of us.
Moneypenny: Oh, Id adore that, if only I could trust myself.
Bond: Same old Moneypenny, Britains last line of defence.
Overview: Ernst Stavro Blofeld (or is that Kojak?) plans to use a deadly biological agent to win himself a complete pardon; James Bond has other ideas. A new actor, George Lazenby, briefly takes up the 007 mantle; La Comtesse Teresa di Vicenzo briefly becomes Mrs. James Bond.
What does Bond drink?
- When Bond accompanies Tracy to the casino lounge he tells the waiter to bring a bottle of Dom Perignon 57. When Tracy leaves (after inviting Bond to her room), Bond tells the waiter (who has arrived with the champagne in an ice bucket) to Send it to suite 423 with caviar for two. When Bond arrives in the room, the order is waiting, along with one of Dracos henchmen. After the ensuing fight, Bond takes a toast point and spreads caviar on it, and then takes a bite. As he leaves, he remarks, Hmm...Royal Beluga, north of the Caspian.
- When Bond first encounters Draco, 007 is brandishing a knife (picked up in a fight with four of Dracos henchmen). Draco greets 007 by saying, Do not kill me, Mr. Bond...at least not until weve had a drink. Draco tells his secretary, A martini for our guest, Olympe. Shaken, not stirred. A Campari for me. When the drinks arrive, Draco hands the martini to Bond and says Salute. Bond responds Cheers. You usually drink Corsican brandy. Later, when Bond considers seeing Tracy in exchange for information about Blofelds whereabouts, he raises his glass and says Lets say Ill sleep on the idea.
- After Bond has tendered his resignation (or so he thinks), he returns to his desk and cleans out items from some of his previous adventures. He pulls out a silver flask of liquor and prepares to take a drink, but realizes hes staring at a portrait of Queen Elizabeth. We see Bond reflected in the portraits glass as he raises the flask, says Sorry, maam, and takes a drink.
- During Dracos birthday party, the Union Corse leader pours Bond a glass of champagne. Later, Bond, Draco, Tracy and Olympe all drink a toast. Tracy (who has learned the reason for Bonds visit from Olympe) says, No woman would waste this excellent champagne discussing a business deal, unless of course she happened to be part of the arrangement.
- In the Alpine Room at Piz Gloria, a waiter asks Bond (who is posing as Sir Hillary Bray) What will you drink, sir? Bond replies, Malt whisky and branch water, please. The waiter soon returns with the drink. Some of the girls (who are being treated in the clinic) also have drinks.
- During dinner with Irma Bunt and the girls, Bond has two glasses of red wine in front of him, as do the others. The bottle (seen when a waiter is pouring for one of the girls) appears to be a German wine.
- After Bond has escaped from Piz Gloria, he attempts to blend in with the crowd in the village. He orders a beer from a stand and actually takes a drink. (By the way, a nearby stand offers Glüwein, a mulled wine.)
- After Bond has been thrown from the bobsled (after the fight with Blofeld), a Saint Bernard trots up, presumably to rescue 007. Bond remarks, Never mind that, go and get the brandy. Five-star Hennessey of course!
Its not just for happy hour anymore: Tracy uses two bottles of Dom Perignon as weapons, throwing one, and breaking the other and using it to hold Grunther at bay.
Other peoples drinks:
- When Tracy first arrives at Dracos birthday party, she takes a glass of champagne.
- When Bond enters Gumboldts office, a tray with a decanter of liquor and several glasses can be seen.
- During the final brainwashing session in Piz Gloria, Irma Bunt drinks a snifter of brandy.
- Blofeld gives Tracy two glasses of Dom Perignon.
- At the wedding party, several guests are seen drinking champagne, including M and Draco, who reminisce about the time their two organizations squared off in 1964.
Other observations: Bond drinks a beer!
Memorable quotes:
Bond: Ill get cracking on this appointment and then catch up with you.
Tracy: The story of our life, James?
Bond: Just keep my martini cool.
Blofeld: Merry Christmas, 007!
Product placement: Dom Perignon gets several mild verbal and visual plugs.
By the book: Based on On Her Majestys Secret Service (1963); the last time a 007 novel and film share most of the same basic plot elements.
- When Bond joins Tracy in the Casino bar, he orders a half-bottle of Krug champagne.
- During their first meeting, Draco asks Bond not to kill him, At least not until we have had a stiff whisky and soda and a talk. Instead on a Martini and Campari, Bond and Draco have bourbon and scotch, respectively.
- Bond has two whisky and sodas in the Piz Gloria bar.
- Bond drinks four beers in Munich.
Total: Seven drinks for 007. A martini (presumably made with vodka), a glass of champagne, a swig of undetermined liquor, a malt whisky and branch water, two glasses of red wine, and a beer.
